What this investigation is
The battery is not presented as a standalone object. GENIUS connects storage with campus electricity sources and users, using an intelligent management layer to decide how the system responds to demand and available capacity.
Verified so far
- TU/e describes the campus battery as having 3.4 MWh of storage capacity.
- The project connects the battery to electricity sources and users across the campus.
- Its stated purpose includes avoiding demand peaks and preventing overload of the campus electricity network.
- TU/e unveiled the battery on 18 November 2024 in the Disruptor building, with approximately 180 attendees.
What to notice
- Distinguish energy capacity, stated in MWh, from instantaneous power, stated in MW; they are not interchangeable.
- Treat the battery, campus loads and management system as one research system.
- The installation’s location does not automatically imply unrestricted visitor access.
Limits and media status
No rights-cleared documentary image was verified. TU/e and partner photographs remain reference-only. Claims about chemistry, artificial intelligence, later performance or a conflicting 3.5 MWh figure are withheld pending exact first-party support.
