Aandammerbrug: from drawbridge to fixed bridge

Amsterdam plans to renew a deteriorated wooden drawbridge while retaining its familiar appearance—but the replacement is intended to be fixed and slightly higher.

What this investigation is

The City’s plan separates appearance from operation. Aandammerbrug is intended to retain the recognizable language of the existing wooden drawbridge while losing its movable function. The proposal responds to condition, safety rules and maintenance cost.
