What this investigation is
Instead of hiding material experiments inside a lab, the Innovation Pavilion puts them into a small working building. The structure is useful precisely because parts can be monitored, compared, removed and replaced.
Verified so far
- The pavilion measures 6 × 6 metres.
- Its façade trials include wood, chalk-hemp insulation, agricultural-fibre and seaweed panels, reed fibre and flax insulation.
- It opened in September 2023 on Marineterrein’s west side.
- The City of Amsterdam lists guided visits every third Thursday at 16:00, with advance registration required.
What to notice
- Look for the façade as a collection of different material systems, rather than one uniform skin.
- Notice where panels meet: modularity depends as much on reversible connections as on the materials themselves.
- Treat the visit schedule as changeable and confirm it with the City before travelling.
